1 |
The mutual rivalry for piling up (the good things of this world) diverts you (from the more serious things), |
Rivalry in worldly increase distracteth you |
Abundance diverts you, |
2 |
Until ye visit the graves. |
Until ye come to the graves. |
Until you come to the graves. |
3 |
But nay, ye soon shall know (the reality). |
Nay, but ye will come to know! |
Nay! you shall soon know, |
4 |
Again, ye soon shall know! |
Nay, but ye will come to know! |
Nay! Nay! you shall soon know. |
5 |
Nay, were ye to know with certainty of mind, (ye would beware!) |
Nay, would that ye knew (now) with a sure knowledge! |
Nay! if you had known with a certain knowledge, |
6 |
Ye shall certainly see Hell-Fire! |
For ye will behold hell-fire. |
You should most certainly have seen the hell; |
7 |
Again, ye shall see it with certainty of sight! |
Aye, ye will behold it with sure vision. |
Then you shall most certainly see it with the eye of certainty; |
8 |
Then, shall ye be questioned that Day about the joy (ye indulged in!). |
Then, on that day, ye will be asked concerning pleasure. |
Then on that day you shall most certainly be questioned about the boons. |
